Finds the 2D centroid of an image loaded from the library. Upload a photo to find the centroid. The image must be converted to black and white in order to alter the threshold values, so using images with a little color and high contrast gives best results. Images may need to be modified before using the app.

In mechanics, the centroid often denotes the location of the neutral axis. The app can be used to give a good approximation to the location of the neutral axis for stress, strain, and bending analysis. By knowing the location of an object centroid, the point of maximum stress and strain may be used for failure analysis. Thus, predicting whether an object will fail under an applied load is dependent on knowing the location of the neutral axis or centroid. Perhaps just as important, geographic centroids can be used in the transportation industry to find regional centers.

The app is intended to supplement engineering calculations or for quick estimations, not as a definitive scientific calculation. Additionally, the app performance is determined by the image pixel count, which limits the precision.
